What is the best method for monitoring website visitors?

There are no stupid questions, only stupid people 
Find ways to make it easy to collect appropriate info on your visitors, such as a free directory, or something else you can give them for free after they register. If they're not willing to provide some basic info, what chance do you think you'll have of converting them to clients/customers? |

It's interesting and worth further research, but from what I can see so far, I think the data is coming from some other software that is tracking them to begin with.

Google Analytics gives you a ton of useful info about visitors. No live monitoring though. It has so many options and covers so many bases. Very easy to set up. If you use other software, it won't hurt to add Google Analytics.
