Question Flash Usage

Ok, I hate when I visit a site, and it ask me to install the newest version of Macromedia Flash to either view it or a little trick part of the site. I actually have Flash, but I can see how it can be a real problem to a non flash user. if they load it up, there inconvenenced when they have to visit my site, and somtimes will be bothered by it while surfing my site .

I strongly do not feel this is a good thing, and do not want to force a visitor to load flash to feel like there getting the most from my service .

So, the question is- Is it possible to have my site, Prior to loading the Flash, check to see if the visitor can use the flash I have, and if they do not, just load a secially made non flash portion?

I think this would be the best alternative.

PS the flash on my site is small, its ran in a 200 by 300 pixel box on a few pages, if the customer does not have Flash, I could just load a filler image in this space.

I just dont want to burden my customer with Flash requests.

PS flks- If this is posted in the wrong section, please let me know.
Thank You.
Jason

the macromedia site has info about several methods to detect flash.
see flash player detection at the bottom of this page.
several methods can detect flash without using flash.

the easiest method...if its feasible within your site structure...
...is to give the visitor the option to view the flash page or the html version.
this is the easiest but not always the best.

there are scripts for detecting flash player capabilities server-side.
this method is the recommended one if you can do it.

Another solution, depending on what features you need is to save your swf as a version 1 or 2 versions old. Then you usually have no problems.

Flash is getting so popular out on the internet now that I think anyone surfing the web is going to run into a site that has it. I don't think your bothering your customers because chances are other sites have told them to download the flash player before they came to your site.

flash site design

the flash player plug-in is like an opinion....
....just about everyone has one:

http://www.macromedia.com/software/...enetration.html

theres nothing wrong with using flash.
just make sure you dont require a player version any higher than you need to.
this option is selected during swf export.
